Welcome to Holy Trinity, Devonport
I’m Charmaine Braatvedt, the Vicar of the ANGLICAN PARISH OF DEVONPORT.
Holy Trinity Church is situated at 20 Church Street, Devonport.
Nestled at the base of Mount Victoria and North Head, Devonport is one of the oldest suburbs in Auckland and certainly the oldest on the North Shore. This seaside village has a reputation for being a friendly and welcoming community. Many of the homes are bungalows or villas which give it an historical feel. The New Zealand Navy is based here in Devonport.
I have been Vicar of the Parish since 2008. I am married to Geoffrey and we have three children who are all grown up now. I am passionate about my ministry here in the Parish. I feel honoured to stand in a long tradition of wonderful vicars who made significant contributions to the life and ministry of this Parish.
As mother parish of the North Shore all other parishes as far north as Warkworth are derived from Devonport. The first vicar was appointed in 1856 the year the first church was built. It was used as a school and a church and so was born Devonport Primary which is currently sited on the slopes of Mount Victoria.
The Parish sees itself as a welcoming and caring faith community. It is an indication of this hospitality that Holy Trinity Church, is open 7 days a week, during daylight hours. Come in to enjoy the warm beauty of this historic building. It is furnished with native kauri timber, and magnificent stained glass windows. Call in for a visit, or to rest or pray – or come to a Service on a Sunday or Wednesday and receive a warm and caring welcome.
The Mission and vision statements of the Parish reflect the priorities of the Faith Community:
“To Know Christ and to make Christ known”. We strive to be “a Christ centred community that attracts all people into a relationship with God and inspires them to serve.
Our different Services of Worship cater for all ages and preferences. These include informal All-age Worship with contemporary songs led by a highly skilled music groups and singers, a more formal New Zealand Prayer book style Eucharist and Evensong with traditional hymns and a quiet reflective Taize style worship service; Youth services and Café style services. . Click here to learn more about the services which are on offer here.
Prayer is very important in the life of our faith community and Prayer Groups meet both in homes and on the church premises during the week. There is also an after-Church Prayer Ministry which is available following the 9:30am Sunday services providing an opportunity for confidential ministry for healing or for help.
We believe that Christian Education is important for all thinking people who are seeking to deepen their relationships with God, and whether it be from our Library, personal Bible Study, Home Fellowship, Discussion Groups, Women’s Groups, Men’s Breakfasts, the Alpha Programme or other educational opportunities, you will find something on offer here to help you relate the Christian Faith to your daily life.
Children and Young People are important members of our Church Family and we have a large and lively Sunday programme for the children called Super Sunday Club, an active Mainly Music Programme and a very active Friday night youth ministry for teenagers.
